Introduction to chattel mortgage
A Chattel Mortgage is a commercial lease for the purpose of finance for equipment such as a car, boat, truck, bus or other vehicle. However, Relion Finance also offers Chattel Mortgages to finance all other types of assets.
Legal ownership of the vehicle or other asset is transferred to the purchaser at the time of purchase and upon final payment the title of the goods are transferred from the financier to you.
What are the benefits of a Chattel Mortgage?
- Claim the full GST amount as Tax Input credits at time of purchase rather than over the monthly repayments.
- Depreciation and interest on repayments are tax deductible
- You have the option of making a deposit (or use a trade in) to help reduce the loan repayments
- You have the choice of having a balloon if you want to reduce your monthly repayments
- The Chattel Mortgage is secured against the asset itself removing the requirement for additional security from bricks and mortar
- Structure your repayments over monthly, quarterly, bi-annually or annually to coincide with your cash flow
